I was recently talking with someone who said they were not able to take great photographs so they stick to writing. As I struggle to tell you about who I am, I realize I am not great at writing about myself which is why I should stick to taking photographs.
Though I have enjoyed photography ever since I received my first camera at a very young age, it was not until I took a photography class my final year of college that my passion for photography truly began.
After college I took a job in the corporate world for 18 years, where I often told co-workers and friends that when I “grow up” I am going to become a photographer. My job required a great deal of travel and I never left home without my camera. I eventually decided it was time to follow my passion and become a full-time photographer.
Whenever you tell someone you are a photographer, they almost always ask what type of photography. This is also a questions asked by other photographers, many of whom consider themselves to be a photographer who is not defined by a specific genre. I consider myself a photographer who can photograph a wide variety of subject matters. I can shoot sports, portraits, headshots, real estate, landscapes, cityscapes, and events. Similar to many of you, I have also been known to photograph my food (which is not hard since Portland has so many amazing restaurants).
In addition to photography, I also enjoy traveling and sports. My wife and I have found our favorite places to visit are Spain and Maui. We are fans of the Portland Trailblazers, Portland Thorns, and all California Golden Bear sports.
I have been fortunate enough to be able to combine my passion for sports with my passion for photography and have photographed numerous Pac-12 football and basketball games. Every photo shoot or event creates their own unique set of challenges. One of things I enjoy most about being a photographer is being able to overcome these challenges to create the amazing images for my clients.
